Before World War I, Belgium was home to over 3,000 breweries. Unfortunately, the war caused many to close. However, the love for Belgian beer has endured, and the number of breweries continues to grow almost daily.

    Unlike Germany, Belgium imposed no restrictions on beer ingredients. While German breweries could only use water, hops, and malt, Belgians added herbs and fruits. This led to the rise of fruit beers like kriek and gueuze, which are now popular far beyond Belgium.
